John Rustad is the Conservative Member of the Legislative Assembly for Nechako Lakes, where he was first elected in 2005.
John was born and raised in Prince George, BC. In 1995, he married his wife Kim Royle. They live on the shores of Cluculz Lake, 40km East of Vanderhoof.
Prior to being elected, John had worked in the forestry industry from boyhood onwards, alongside his family which had milling interests. In 1995, John founded his company, Western Geographic Information Systems Inc, which was a consulting service for the resource sector.
As the MLA for Nechako Lakes, John has fought for more than 20 years for the people of British Columbia. A champion for resource development, economic reconciliation, and the common man, John believes that every British Columbian has a right to make the most of our beautiful province and have a share in its prosperity.
As Minister of Aboriginal Relations and Reconciliation from 2013 to 2017, John signed more than 400 agreements that have created enormous economic opportunities for people across British Columbia.
In 2023, John became the leader of the BC Conservative Party, leading them into the 2024 general election, achieving victory in 44 seats. He then served as Leader of the Opposition from November 2024 to December 2025.
Currently, John serves as the Opposition Critic for the Treasury Board, and looks forward to helping elect a strong, conservative, majority government in BC.
