The Conservative Caucus of British Columbia (the “Caucus”) is committed to protecting the privacy of constituents and individuals who interact with our Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) and staff. This Privacy Policy outlines our practices regarding the collection, use, and disclosure of personal information, guided by the principles of British Columbia’s Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIPPA) and the privacy guidelines of the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia.
The Caucus is dedicated to maintaining the confidentiality and security of personal information. As a tax-funded legislative body, we adhere to responsible information practices to ensure the trust of British Columbians is maintained.
This policy applies to all personal information collected, used, or disclosed by the Caucus, including information collected through our website, correspondence, constituency casework, and other interactions related to our parliamentary duties. This policy does not apply to employee personal information or impose limits on the collection, use, or disclosure of business contact information.
The Caucus is accountable and responsible for personal information under its control. Because we do not have a designated Privacy Officer, privacy compliance and inquiries are managed collectively by the Caucus administration. The Caucus has adopted procedures to protect personal information, safely manage constituent casework, and ensure staff are trained on privacy best practices.
We collect personal information solely to fulfill our legislative and public service duties. These purposes include:
Assisting constituents in resolving issues with provincial government ministries or agencies.
Managing public correspondence, inquiries, and feedback on legislation and public policy.
Communicating information regarding legislative activities, town halls, and community issues.
Meeting operational and parliamentary requirements as mandated by the Legislative Assembly.
We do not collect information for fundraising, donations, or party memberships. Third-party applications on our digital platforms may use technologies to track online activity to improve our services.
We will obtain consent for the collection, use, or disclosure of personal information, except where permitted or required by law (for example, FOIPPA allows a public body to release information to an MLA assisting a constituent). Consent can be express (verbally or in writing) or implied (by providing information for a specific inquiry). You may withdraw your consent at any time, subject to reasonable notice, by contacting the Caucus.
We will retain personal information only as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes for which it was collected or to comply with the Legislative Assembly’s records management guidelines. When no longer needed, it will be securely destroyed or anonymized.
We strive to maintain accurate and complete personal information. If you believe your information is inaccurate, please contact the Caucus to update it.
We have implemented reasonable physical, technical, and administrative safeguards to protect personal information from unauthorized access, use, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. These safeguards include:
Secure storage facilities.
Password protection and access controls.
Data encryption.
Regular security assessments.
