In 2024, Heather was elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia, bringing with her a wealth of leadership and governance experience. Her advocacy is grounded in a genuine desire to improve the well-being of individuals, families, and communities across British Columbia.
Heather’s commitment to public service began in 2008 when she was elected as a school trustee in Chilliwack. Over the next fifteen years, she was consistently re-elected, reflecting the trust and confidence her community placed in her leadership. During her time as a trustee, Heather was a strong advocate for foundational academic skills and consistently emphasized the importance of literacy in supporting student success.
Heather moved to British Columbia from Ontario with her family in 1978. In 1993, she and her husband relocated from North Vancouver to Chilliwack to raise their young family and build their construction business, gaining firsthand experience with both the challenges and rewards of entrepreneurship. In 2009, Heather’s husband passed away unexpectedly, a profound loss that marked a significant turning point in her family’s life.
Family remains at the heart of Heather’s values and public service. As a mother, grandmother, and proud “Nan,” she is deeply committed to helping create a positive and hopeful future for the next generation. Heather is exceptionally proud of her three children and their spouses, and she draws inspiration from her family in her work as a community advocate and elected representative.
Heather’s role as an MLA, her dedication to family, and her commitment to serving her community continue to guide her advocacy for responsible, accountable government.
Over the past two years, Heather has served as the Official Opposition Critic for the Ministry of Children and Family Development, with a particular focus on Indigenous self-governance. She currently serves as the Shadow Minister for Child Care and Early Education. In these roles, she has worked to hold government accountable for its spending and decision-making, while highlighting challenges and opportunities within these ministries through legislative debates, committee work, estimates discussions, and Question Period.
Heather currently serves as the Interim Leader of the Official Opposition and Shadow Minister for Childcare and Early Education.
