First elected in 2024, MLA Kindy has been influential in forming the BC Conservative Party’s health care platform. As the BC Shadow Health Care Minister/Health Critic, she has maintained the ethic that healthcare is non-partisan issue, and policies should be patient centered so that everyone in BC can get care when and where they need it. MLA Kindy strongly supports the scientific method of collecting data and that government should be transparent and accountable to that data. She is a proponent of reducing bureaucracy in our healthcare and empowering the communities and frontlines while keeping our healthcare universal.
As a physician, Dr. Kindy frequently lobbied government to achieve the needs of her patients. Initially this was advocating for treatment facilities for her addicted patients, but with the fentanyl crisis she immediately understood the implications for the survival of her patients. She was the first to ask Island Health to put fentanyl on the urine drug screen when ER doctors were wondering why patients were not breathing while narcotic drug screens were negative. When the COVID-19 mandates isolated her patients and the inappropriately named “safe supply” was instituted, Dr. Kindy immediately spoke out. “No narcotics are safe.” She is also a strong proponent of free speech, bodily autonomy and complete informed consent.
On the North Island MLA Kindy has been strongly advocating for resuming 24-hour emergency department service for the town of Port Hardy (closed at night for 3 years) and giving the current cohort of physicians the capacity to admit patients and care for them.
MLA Kindy is also a strong advocate for improving conditions for nurses and healthcare staff at hospitals in her riding and across the province, including nursing and care aide ratios in hospitals and long-term care facilities. Her recent work with rare disease patients and out-of-country care shows her dedication to her mission – to see everyone in British Columbia receive the healthcare they deserve.
