Ward Stamer was elected as the Member of the Legislative Assembly for Kamloops-North Thompson in 2024. He currently serves as the Official Opposition Critic for Forests, where he brings forward the voices of forestry workers, contractors, rural communities, and families across British Columbia.
Ward has deep roots in Barriere, where he has lived since his youth. A devoted husband to his wife, Carleen, and a proud father and grandfather, Ward has spent much of his life working, volunteering, and serving the people of the North Thompson.
Before entering provincial politics, Ward built a long career in the forest industry, giving him a practical understanding of the challenges facing resource communities. His commitment to public service began well before his election as MLA. He served as Chair of the Barriere Improvement District, was elected to Barriere’s first municipal council following incorporation, and later served as Mayor of Barriere, first elected in 2018, and re-elected in 2022.
As mayor, Ward worked to strengthen local infrastructure, expand economic opportunities, and advocate for improved services. His leadership helped advance upgrades to Barriere’s water system and supported the continued development of business and industrial park lands to create local employment opportunities.
Ward is also a longtime member of the Lions Club, with more than three decades of service. The Lions motto, “We Serve,” reflects the approach Ward has brought to both community life and public office: direct, practical, and focused on getting results for people.
Since being elected MLA, Ward has continued to advocate for healthcare access, seniors care, affordable housing, safer highways, and a stronger future for resource communities. In 2026, his Private Member’s Bill, the Dashboard Cameras in Commercial Vehicles Act, received Royal Assent, reflecting his focus on practical solutions that improve safety and accountability on B.C. roads.
Ward remains committed to serving with honesty, hard work, and a strong belief in the future of British Columbia and all who call it home.
