January 20th COURTNEY, BC: The following is a statement from Official Opposition Critic for Rural Healthcare and MLA for Courtenay-Comox Brennan Day on the public alert issues by Ambulance Paramedics of BC/CUPE 873 about critical staffing at BC ambulances:
“The public safety crisis unfolding in our ambulance system is a direct result of the NDP government’s failure to prioritize frontline healthcare. Paramedics are stretched to their breaking point, and communities across the province are being left to fend for themselves. BC families deserve better than a system where ambulances sit idle while patients wait hours for critical care.”
“David Eby and his government have ignored repeated warnings from paramedics yet continue to hide behind empty assurances. Promises don’t save lives—action does. We need real solutions: more paramedics on the ground, better support for rural communities, and less bureaucratic red tape strangling emergency services. If the NDP can’t fix this broken system, British Columbians will pay the price with their health and safety. The time for excuses is over. Lives are at stake.”
