Richmond, BC: “British Columbia was the first jurisdiction in Canada where an opposition MLA legislated a clear call to repeal the EV mandate. When I introduced the Zero-Emission Vehicles Repeal Act this spring, I became the first elected official in the country to put forward legislation to end a 100% zero-emission vehicle sales law. I did so because this mandate is unrealistic, unaffordable, and out of step with everyday people.
The NDP government chose to vote it down, ignoring the growing concerns of industry, consumers, and communities across B.C.
I want to be clear: I’m a proud EV owner and have been for nearly a decade. I know firsthand that EVs can work well in certain regions and for certain lifestyles. But this is not a one-size-fits-all solution. For many British Columbians, especially those living in rural or colder areas, this mandate creates more barriers than benefits.
Now, Alberta and Ontario are saying the same thing. I’m joining them in calling on the federal government to follow that lead and repeal its national EV mandate.”
British Columbians—and all Canadians—deserve real solutions, not ideology. Let’s protect consumer choice, strengthen our energy independence, and stop punishing people for how they drive.”
