SURREY, BC: Following last night’s targeted shooting at Kap’s Café in Surrey, B.C., Conservative Party of BC MLAs Mandeep Dhaliwal (Surrey North) and Elenore Sturko (Surrey-Cloverdale) are expressing deep concern over rising violence and growing public unease in the city.
“We have spoken directly with the owners of Kap’s Café, who confirmed that, thankfully, no life-threatening harm was inflicted,” said Dhaliwal. “However, the restaurant sustained material damage, and it’s clear this deeply disturbing act was intentional.”
At approximately 1:50 a.m. on Thursday, multiple shots were fired into the restaurant while staff and family were still inside. A video circulating on social media, reportedly filmed from inside the shooter’s vehicle, shows at least 10 rounds being discharged toward the business. The video is still under police investigation.
“This should never happen in our city – full stop,” said Sturko. “People should feel safe operating a business, raising their families, and walking their streets. Unfortunately, under this NDP government, communities like Surrey feel more dangerous by the day.”
While the investigation remains ongoing and Surrey Police Service continues their work, the MLAs are calling on the provincial government to stop downplaying escalating violence and deliver a real public safety plan that restores peace of mind in Surrey and beyond.
“Surrey residents are fed up. Public safety is not a political talking point, it’s a lived daily concern,” said Dhaliwal. “We need action, not more excuses.”
