LANGLEY, BC: Shadow Minister for Infrastructure and MLA for Langley–Walnut Grove, Misty Van Popta, says the NDP government must stop stalling and deliver on its two-year-old promise to rebuild Hazel Trembath Elementary in Port Coquitlam.
“Two years after this school burned down, there are still no shovels in the ground,” said Van Popta. “Parents and children have waited long enough. Communities shouldn’t have to beg the government to do what it already promised.”
The school was destroyed by fire in October 2023, displacing more than 200 students. Despite assurances that funding was included in the 2025 budget, there’s still no confirmed construction plan or timeline.
Van Popta is urging the province to approve the School District’s business plan and begin rebuilding immediately.
“Families deserve action, not excuses,” she said. “It’s time to turn promises into progress.”
